b) The Engine Number.
c) The previous Registration Number (if available).
See below links for all State contact details and or the Written Off Vehicle Registrar (WOVR)
What is the Written-Off Vehicle Register?
The Written-Off Vehicle Register (WOVR) is an Australia-wide initiative developed by the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council.
The Register is a nationally co-ordinated database of vehicles that have been assessed as written-off. They are listed by their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs)
All vehicles with a GVM of 4.5 tonnes or less and aged 15 years or less from the date of manufacture, that are assessed as a total loss, will now be termed "written-off", and recorded on the National Register.
Nationally consistent criteria will be applied to determine the vehicles written-off status.
Damaged not Recorded
If a vehicle has no record and is damaged without any written off status by insurance company (repairable or Statutory) then the car is able to be repaired and re registered without any further inspections other that for a Road Worthy Certificate (RWC) once repair is completed.
Statutory Write Off
A Statutory Write-Off will have its registration cancelled and the cancellation recorded against its VIN on the Register. A Statutory Write-Off will never be permitted to be re-registered in any State or Territory.
Repairable Write Off
A repairable write-off is a vehicle that is assessed as a total loss and is NOT a statutory write-off. A repairable write-off WILL be permitted to be registered following the completion of a Vehicle Identity Inspection.
*(New legistlation has been passed in NSW re the requirement for registration of a repairable write off)
